The Neue Donau downstream of Steinspornbrücke is an artificial waterway constructed between 1972 and 1988 as a flood relief channel for the Danube River. It normally functions as a standing water body divided into two retention areas by three weirs and is not connected to the main Danube. Swimming is prohibited during flood discharge events.
