Nievenheimer See is an artificial lake with a northern bathing beach called Badestrand Strabeach. The bathing area covers approximately 4,500 square metres with a sandy bottom and gently sloping shoreline suitable for children. The lake has a total surface area of 27 hectares with an average depth of 14 metres and maximum depth of 18.5 metres. Water temperature ranges from 7.7 to 25.3 degrees Celsius with an average of 18.4 degrees. The water has been classified as excellent for four consecutive years (2022–2025).

Water

Artificial lake with a surface area of 27 hectares. Average water depth is 14 metres with a maximum depth of 18.5 metres. The bathing area has a water depth of 5 metres. The lake has a catchment area of 10–100 square kilometres. Water renewal occurs through inflow and groundwater throughflow with a water exchange time exceeding 30 days. The substrate is sandy with a gently sloping shoreline. The water body is stratified.

Location

The lake is located in the Rhine-Kreis Neuss district. The bathing beach has a length of approximately 140 metres and a total beach area of 6,300 square metres with 6,200 square metres of designated lying area. Approximately 400 paid parking spaces are available.

Paid parking available (approximately 400 spaces). The gently sloping shoreline is suitable for children.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025). pH ranges from 8.0 to 8.8 with an average of 8.3. Conductivity ranges from 584 to 625 µS·cm⁻¹ with an average of 604 µS·cm⁻¹. Water transparency averages 2.0 metres (range 1.5 to >2 metres). The lake is mesotrophic with moderate nutrient content. No cyanobacterial blooms have been observed in the past four years. The risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is assessed as none. The risk of phytoplankton mass development is assessed as low. Occasional bird activity has a temporary influence on water quality. Active gravel extraction affects water visibility.

Risks

Occasional waterfowl activity causes temporary impairment of water quality. Active gravel extraction reduces water transparency.
