Oinilan Beach is a sandy beach located in Paimio, Finland, situated next to a residential area. The bathing water is a shallow lake known as Oinilan Pond, with the deepest point reaching approximately 3.5 meters. The beach features both sandy and grassy areas and was originally a drained bog that was later dammed. The pond was last dredged in the early 2000s, when sand was placed over filter fabric on the beach. Fish species have been introduced to improve water quality.

Water

Lake (Oinilan Pond). Maximum depth approximately 3.5 meters. Water level may drop during prolonged dry periods. Bottom composition consists of mud and sand.

Location

Oinilan Beach is located in Paimio, Finland at Jägerhornintie 4, 21530 Paimio. Coordinates: 22.6912 60.4777. A road runs approximately 50 meters away with a forested buffer zone in between.

Facilities

Three rescue equipment sets, cable slide, swings, rotating seesaw, picnic tables, children's water slide, spring animals, carousel, sandbox, two changing cabins, accessible toilet (with drainage) and standard toilet, beach ball court, jetty, swimming pontoon, four waste bins.

Season

Monitoring period: early June through 31 August (15 June to 31 August as the main swimming season).

Water Quality

Water quality classification has been excellent in previous swimming seasons. E. coli and enterococcus monitoring is conducted with a minimum of four samples per season from early June through 31 August. Cyanobacteria were occasionally detected in 2018 and 2019 but were not found in 2017 or 2020. Species identified include Anabaena sp and Microcystis spp. Filamentous algae may appear in late summer. Monitoring point is located at the south end jetty.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) occurrence remains possible under warm, calm, and rain-free conditions. Filamentous algae may appear in late summer. Heavy rainfall and prolonged heat waves may affect water quality.
