Palangos Bathing Site No. 7 is a women's beach located on the Baltic Sea coast of Lithuania, extending from the Rugėlio path to a café. The beach features a natural sandy shoreline with no underwater vegetation. It is approximately 1,200 meters long with average water depths of 1.0 meter and maximum depths of 1.5 meters. The beach can accommodate approximately 12,000 visitors during peak summer conditions.

Location

Palangos city, Klaipėda district, Lithuania. Coordinates: X=55.9316, Y=21.0563. The beach is located on the open Baltic Sea sandy coast.

Facilities

Two portable container toilets at beach access points. No showers. Waste management: 20 waste bins (0.12 m³ capacity) distributed on beach, emptied daily. Six waste collection containers (1.5 m³ capacity) located 100 meters from water at beach access. Pets prohibited.

Season

Monitoring conducted year-round according to Directive 2006/7/EC. Blue-green algae observations recorded during summer months.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024: Excellent. Historical monitoring (2017–2020): Excellent quality. 2021–2022: Good quality. 2023: Satisfactory quality. Monitoring conducted according to Directive 2006/7/EC requirements. The water body is classified as at-risk due to point and diffuse pollution impacts, with non-compliance regarding total phosphorus and total nitrogen according to Directive 2000/60/EC. Eutrophication risk exists due to shortage of toilet facilities and enriched Baltic Sea waters.

Risks

Eutrophication possible due to toilet deficiency and nutrient-rich Baltic Sea water. Blue-green algae (one of summer phytoplankton classes) recorded annually in summer. Large algae not present in this area. Short-term pollution possible in case of sewage network failures. Water body classified as at-risk.
