Water

Coastal bathing areas in the Brittany region of France, including bays and tidal zones. The study area experiences tidal currents, with significant wave heights measured at the Saint-Cast observation point. Water levels vary with tidal cycles.

Location

Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, France. Five bathing beaches are profiled: Plage des Quatre Vaux, Plage de la Fosse, La Grande Plage, Plage de la Fresnaye, and Plage de Pen Guen.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted by ARS (Regional Health Agency) using bacteriological analysis. Monitoring networks include REMI (microbiological control of shellfish production zones by IFREMER) and REPHY (phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance by IFREMER). Classification data available for each beach with results from 2011 to 2016.

Risks

Macroalgae (ulves) proliferation potential identified in the study area with coverage data recorded from 2007 to 2014. Non-collective sanitation systems present in the area. Streams (Ruisseau du Pont Quinteux, Ruisseau du Kermiton, Ruisseau Pont Pourvois) identified as potential pollution sources.
