Pinarella is a bathing beach located in Cervia, Emilia-Romagna, extending from 100 metres south of the Cervia Port Canal pier to the Ravenna-Forlì provincial border. The sandy coast is designated for bathing, with a beach width of 70–80 metres as of 2018. The hinterland consists of sparse residential development and extensive cultivated cropland. The area has received an excellent water quality classification based on 2019–2022 monitoring data.

Water

Coastal marine waters of a flat alluvial type with high stability. The bathing area covers 4.998 square kilometres. No rivers or direct discharges flow into the water body.

Location

Located in Cervia, province of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends from 100 metres south of the Cervia Port Canal pier southward to the Ravenna-Forlì provincial border. The area contains 103 beach establishments.

Facilities

103 beach establishments with first aid services, toilet facilities including disabled access, hot showers, accessible infrastructure without architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2019–2022). Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 26 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 33 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 90th percentile: 14 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 15 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded the legal limit; this was classified as an anomalous event by the European Commission. No significant pollution sources are present in the bathing area.

Risks

A phytoplankton bloom of Fibrocapsa japonica (Raphidophyceae) occurred in July 2022. Cyanobacterial blooms have not been reported. No toxic effects from phytoplankton or macroalgae have been recorded. Four authorised launching corridors for water sports are located in the area.
