Veillat is a sandy beach located in the town centre of Saint-Raphaël in the Var department along the Mediterranean Sea. The beach has a total length of approximately 427 metres with a maximum width of 32 metres and a total surface area of 12,800 square metres. It is a public beach oriented southeast to southwest, situated between two rocky breakwaters and bordered by the old port area.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. The bathing zone has a total surface area of 3,242 square metres. Water circulation flows from east to west. Coastal currents near the shore are predominantly weak with velocities typically below 0.12 metres per second, reaching a maximum of 0.4 metres per second during storm conditions.

Location

Saint-Raphaël, Var department, France. Access via Promenade René Coty and Corniche Rolland Garros in the town centre. Paid parking available on street and in covered car parks at Coullet and Bonaparte.

Facilities

2 showers, 1 toilet, 1 lifeguard post (emergency services contact: 04 94 83 94 76). The beach is publicly accessible with daily maintenance during summer season using mechanical cleaning equipment.

Water Quality

Water is clear. Sampling points for sanitary monitoring were identified for the period 2011-2013 at coordinates 43.4209328, 6.7687321. Potential pollution sources identified include the Pédégal and Garonne rivers (located 800 metres northwest), three stormwater outfalls, and three pump stations for wastewater (PR Réserve, PR Diana, and PR Beaurivage) which may overflow during malfunctions or heavy rainfall.

Risks

Bacterial and physicochemical pollution can impact water quality from the Pédégal river during low-flow periods and heavy rainfall. Wastewater pump stations pose potential pollution risk in case of malfunction or overflow during heavy precipitation. Recirculation phenomena and wind attenuation due to breakwaters may extend water renewal times.
