Plaia torrente Acquicella is a sandy beach located in Catania, Sicily. The beach has a sandy bottom with a gently sloping seabed and an average width of 130-140 metres. The beach is equipped with private bathing establishments, a municipal beach area, sports facilities, and hotels located beyond the coastal road SS 114. The area is subject to permanent swimming prohibition due to the Acquicella stream, which flows 350 metres south of the bathing zone.

Water

Sandy beach on a marine water body. Beach width approximately 130-140 metres. The seabed is sandy with a gently sloping gradient that is maintained on the underwater portion.

Location

Located in Catania, Sicily, 350 metres south of the Acquicella stream and between the southern boundary of Catania port and the northern boundary of the bathing area. The beach has an extent of approximately 0.583 kilometres.

Facilities

Private bathing establishments, municipal beach, sports facilities, hotels, and infrastructure for disabled users are present in the area beyond the coastal road SS 114.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as EXCELLENT. There is a permanent swimming prohibition in place due to the Torrente Acquicella, a watercourse positioned between the southern limit of Catania port and the northern limit of the bathing area.

Risks

Permanent swimming prohibition exists due to the Torrente Acquicella watercourse. Adverse weather conditions can displace the stream mouth to be contiguous with the bathing area and may damage protective barriers installed during the bathing season.
