France Lake 1 - Excellent

Challes-les-Eaux is a bathing water body in the Savoie department of France. It is a man-made lake equipped with a bottom valve for draining and a reservoir to regulate water level. The lake is fed by the Mère river upstream of the Nant de la Boiserrette stream. Water quality monitoring has been conducted since 2008 as part of European bathing water directives.

Location

Challes-les-Eaux, Savoie department, France. The beach is located on the plan d'eau (lake) of Challes-les-Eaux.

Water Quality

Water quality has been monitored by ARS (health authority) from 2008 to 2012. Historical water quality classification data available for the 1976 and 2006 EU bathing water directives. Microbiological parameters including fecal indicator bacteria tracked.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified in the catchment area. Risks include fecal contamination leading to ENT, digestive, and eye infections; leptospirosis from rodent urine; swimmer's itch from parasites; and cyanobacteria toxins affecting skin, mucous membranes, nervous system, and liver.
