Plan d'eau is a freshwater bathing site located in Fontaine-Guérin, Maine-et-Loire. The water body measures 134 meters in length and 145 meters on the side where the beach is located, with a maximum depth of 2.5 meters beyond the bathing perimeter. The sandy beach is fed by two natural springs that continuously renew the water, with overflow draining into the Couasnon river. The site has been classified as Grade A for water quality since 2006.

Water

Freshwater pond. Length of 134 meters from beach to opposite point. Width of 145 meters on the beach side. Maximum depth of 2.5 meters at the far point, outside the bathing perimeter. Sandy beach. Fed by two natural springs with continuous water renewal. Overflow discharges continuously into the Couasnon river.

Location

Fontaine-Guérin (49250), located outside the town center on a 2.66-hectare property. Parking is available on the other side of Route Départementale 211 near the bathing area. Access to the water is on foot via an entrance from Route Départementale 211, with a gate located next to the rescue post for vehicle access when necessary.

Facilities

Lifeguard (maître nageur sauveteur) present during designated swimming season. Toilets (including Turkish toilet) on site near the beach. Rescue post. Information display boards. Inflatable swimming accessories permitted within bathing zone. No showers or disabled access facilities mentioned. Flag system: green flag indicates supervised and safe bathing; yellow flag indicates supervised but dangerous; red flag indicates bathing prohibited and dangerous.

Season

1 July to 31 August 2011. Lifeguard supervision during these dates only. Supervised bathing hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 13:30–19:00; Sunday and public holidays 12:30–20:00; Tuesday closed. Site open to public 07:30–22:00 outside monitored hours, but swimming strictly prohibited without lifeguard supervision.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Grade A from 2006 to 2010. Bacteriological results are satisfactory. Cyanobacteria have been detected at low levels in recent years, with counts of 458,459 cells/ml and low microcystin-LR concentration (<0.05 µg/l). No water quality problems have been identified over 10 years except for minor cyanobacteria presence. Monitoring results are systematically displayed at the site. Precautionary information sheets are posted when cyanobacteria are detected.

Risks

Cyanobacteria detected at low levels, though concentrations of toxins remain very low. Green algae deposits may occasionally accumulate but are removed as they appear. Risk of algal proliferation possible. Water transparency is normal. No motorized watercraft or diving permitted from beach or banks.
