France Lake 1 - Excellent

La Roche is a recreational water body located 1 km south of Noiretable town centre in France, created in the 1970s and covering 1.7 hectares. The bathing zone is situated on the northwestern shore with a sandy beach 200 metres long and is delimited by buoys measuring 50 metres by 10 metres. The water body is fed by intake from the Petit Lignon stream and is part of a leisure area that includes camping facilities, children's play areas, tennis courts, and parking.

Water

Artificial lake with a surface area of 1.7 hectares. Fed by intake from the Petit Lignon stream with a module flow of 220 litres per second. Water renewal capacity of approximately 25,000 cubic metres in 24 hours under normal conditions, equating to full basin renewal in 35 hours. During low flow periods, renewal may take up to 13 days.

Location

Located 1 km south of Noiretable town centre. Accessible by a secured pedestrian path from the town. Vehicle parking is available at the leisure area opposite the beach.

Facilities

Lifeguard supervision, rescue post, toilets, cold water shower at snack bar entrance, additional toilet in tennis facilities building, information board displaying regulations and water quality results, camping facilities, camping-car area, children's play areas, tennis courts, free parking.

Season

Bathing is officially monitored from 1 July to 31 August. Lifeguard supervision is provided daily except Thursdays from 13:00 to 19:00 hours.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored regularly by ARS (regional health authority) during the bathing season using microbiological indicators (total coliforms, Escherichia coli, intestinal enterococci) and physicochemical parameters (colour, transparency). Results are classified according to French standards into categories A through D, with categories A and B considered compliant with European regulations.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include agricultural activity from three farm operations in the watershed, domestic wastewater from villages (Vérines, La Goutte-Champlong, Tressiche, La Planche), rainwater and wastewater discharges on the site, and visitor-related pollution. During marked low-water periods, the bathing basin may not be fed for several days.
