Maritime water body in the Ría de Baiona basin, part of the Cíes-Ons water mass within the Galicia Costa hydrographic district. Water mass status is classified as good.

Location

Baiona, Pontevedra Province, Galicia, Spain. Reference locality: A Ramallosa. UTM coordinates: X 514244, Y 4662610 (European Datum 1950, UTM 29N).

Water Quality

Water quality classification ranged from excellent to insufficient during monitoring. E. coli concentrations and enterococcus levels were monitored from 2008 to 2010. The zone has a history of at least one year classified as insufficient. An adjacent shellfish production zone (GAL 11/03 Esteiro do Río Miñor) is closed.

Risks

Risk of contamination from occasional discharges associated with precipitation events (yellow alert status for precipitation intensity). Adjacent shellfish production zone has historical closure status.
