Playa de Andrín is a natural sandy beach located in Llanes, Asturias, characterized by white sand and boulders. The beach measures 240 metres in length and 62 metres in width with highly variable width. It is sheltered by surrounding hills and features the Castro Ballota rocky islet on its left margin. The beach experiences strong marine currents and considerable wave action, making it suitable for surfing but requiring caution for water activities. Water renewal occurs in less than seven days.

Location

Andrín, Llanes municipality, Asturias, Spain. Near the town of Llanes. Parking available with fewer than 100 spaces. Good pedestrian access and vehicle access by road.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent based on microbiological monitoring at sampling point PM1. Overall contamination risk is very low. Primary potential pollution sources are the Llanes port (3.5 km away), urban submarine outfall (4.4 km away), and dredging material discharge point (3.4 km away). A fecal water collection tank near the beach is emptied regularly (almost daily in summer) and represents a potential low-risk source of accidental contamination.

Risks

Strong marine currents and considerable wave action require caution during water activities. Risk of jellyfish proliferation is low; occasional sightings include Portuguese man o'war (Physalia physalis), sailfish (Velella velella), mauve stinger (Pelagia noctiluca), and moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), with notable incidents in 2008 and 2012 but no recorded incidents at this beach in 2016. No risk of microalgae or cyanobacteria proliferation. Macroalgae proliferation risk is low, occurring only during natural storm events. Increased turbidity may occur seasonally from dredging activities.
