Bolonia is a natural coastal beach in Tarifa, Cádiz, stretching 2,580 meters with an average width of 70 meters. The beach features golden sand with rocky areas and is situated in a protected area (LIC/ZEPA/Natural Park). Swimming conditions are characterized by moderate waves and windiness, with a medium occupation level. The beach is isolated with minimal urbanization.

Water

Coastal Atlantic waters influenced by Mediterranean waters. The water body is shallow with sand and rock substrate. Mesomareal tidal range of 2–4 meters. Currents are dominant toward south, south-southeast, and southeast. Wave exposure is moderate, with dominant waves from the west and secondary waves from the southeast.

Location

Located in Tarifa, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain, in the Litoral de Cádiz area. Access is available on foot or by car. A Red Cross station and lifeguard equipment are present on the beach.

Facilities

Red Cross station, lifeguard equipment, surveillance equipment, toilets, showers, waste bins, and cleaning services. Signage for danger is present. No disabled access, boardwalks, or nautical facilities.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as Excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. The risk of short-term contamination is low, primarily microbiological and lasting up to 24 hours. Risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferations are all classified as low.

Risks

Short-term microbiological contamination risk from diffuse sources including land use, built surfaces, and forest areas. Streams including Alpariate, Churriana, de las Villas, and Pulido contribute to the watershed. Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
