Caños de Meca is a natural Atlantic coastal beach in Barbate, Cádiz, within the Marismas de Barbate Natural Park. The beach is 520 metres long with an average width of 40 metres and features golden sand with rocky areas. Bathing conditions are characterised by moderate wave action and windy exposure. The beach has a medium occupation level and semi-urban development.

Water

Atlantic coastal waters, shallow depth (batimetry: shallow waters). Substrate consists of sand with rocks. Tidal range is mesomareal (2–4 metres). Current regime is dominant towards south, south-southeast, and southeast. Wave regime is dominant from the west and secondarily from the southeast.

Location

Barbate, Cádiz, Andalucía. Access is available on foot and by car. Parking is available at the nearby Puerto Deportivo Barbate.

Facilities

Lifeguards present. Rescue equipment available. Toilets and showers available. Bins provided. Cleaning service operates. Signage present. Disabled access not available. No Red Cross post.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons (2013–2016). Low microbiological risk of short duration (24 hours). Risk assessment methodology: Deterministic (UNE 150008 standard). Low risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.

Risks

Low-level diffuse pollution source from land use in the influence zone, built and altered surfaces. No point source pollution recorded.
