Playa El Cable is a coastal bathing beach located in Arrecife, Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach stretches 315 metres in length and 18 metres in width with white coarse sand substrate. It is exposed to moderate wave conditions with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The beach is situated on the east coast of Lanzarote and offers facilities including pedestrian and vehicle access, a promenade, parking, and a public telephone.

Water

Coastal marine water body. The water mass is ES70LZTIV - East of Lanzarote/Natural coastal surface water. Bathymetry ranges from 0 to −9 metres. The water is exposed to moderate wave conditions with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. Substrate comprises white coarse sand. Water regime shows moderate wave conditions.

Location

Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is accessible by foot and by vehicle. Parking is available and rated as good.

Facilities

Pedestrian access (regular), vehicle access (regular), promenade, parking (good), public telephone. No public water fountain, showers, foot wash, changing rooms, bars, medical care, or lifeguards. No disabled access.

Season

1 February to 30 November.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on evaluation of analytical results for faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococcus) collected over four years in accordance with RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70LZTIV is in good ecological status (biological and physico-chemical), with an overall state of good or better according to the Hydrological Plan of Lanzarote.

Risks

Potential sources of point pollution include El Cable sewage treatment plant, La Concha sewage treatment plant, Cabildo zone sewage overflow, and Portugal and Las Buganvillas sewage treatment plants. Short-duration pollution episodes may include: stormwater discharge from heavy rainfall (sporadic, less than 72 hours); raw or treated urban wastewater (unexpected, less than 72 hours). Episodes of cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
