Ciutat beach is located in La Villajoyosa municipality in Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach has an irregular closed configuration with perpendicular groyne structures for defence and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bounded to the north by the La Villajoyosa sports port and to the south by L'Almadrava beach. The beach is 1201.3 metres long with a mean width of 66.5 metres and is composed of sand of artificial origin.

Marine coastal water body. High shoreline length of 1201.3 metres with mean width of 66.5 metres. Sandy composition. Low-accumulation coastal type. Microtidal range. Current direction flows from south to north. Belongs to the Júcar River Basin District coastal water mass (CW Costera category, typology 8).

Location

La Villajoyosa municipality, Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is situated within the urban area of the municipality. Parking is available. Road access is provided.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 2020-2023 monitoring results). The water mass is in very good ecological and chemical status. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season assessing visual inspection parameters for water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. Monitoring point established in 1988 at Calle Costera del Mar (coordinates 741531, 4265401). Water quality is regulated under Royal Decree 1341/2007 transposing Directive 2006/7/CE.

Risks

Río Amadorio with mixed origin (natural watercourse) discharging continuously at the southern boundary (medium risk type). Colector y bombeo residuales av. Port (artificial channel for stormwater and sewage with metal gates) discharging sporadically at the northern boundary (medium risk type). Short-duration contamination factors identified with low frequency and mild impact: rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges. Other factors identified with low frequency and mild impact: rivers/canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution.
