Platja d'en Ros is a small cove beach located in the municipality of Cadaqués in Alt Empordà, Girona, on the irregular coast of Cap de Creus. The beach is approximately 51 metres long with an average width of 6 metres, featuring coarse sand and a steep water entry. The beach is situated in a residential area at the outskirts of Cadaqués town and is flanked by rocky shoreline to the north and south, with medium occupancy levels.

Mediterranean Sea. Water body type C3 RIERES DEL CAP DE CREUS: rocky deep type with low continental influence. Beach surface area 214 m². Mean salinity range 36.2–38.6 psu. Mean water temperature: June 20.2°C, July 22.6°C, August 22.3°C, September 20.7°C. Significant wave height 0.61 m, mean period 5.82 seconds, predominant direction N. Predominant sea state flat. Winds: predominant direction N, weak intensity. The beach does not receive input from any natural water course, permanent or temporary.

Location

Cadaqués municipality (2,873 inhabitants) in Alt Empordà, Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Located in a cove of the Cap de Creus coast at the edges of the urban centre of Cadaqués in a residential setting.

Season

1st week of June to 3rd week of September. Microbiological control conducted weekly (Saturdays) for 17 consecutive weeks. Environmental monitoring conducted with a minimum of 3 weekly inspections.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored and classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring includes Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators. Environmental monitoring evaluates water transparency, colouration, human-origin floating solids, marine and terrestrial plant remains, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence.

Risks

Phytoplankton proliferation monitoring is conducted during the bathing season to detect and control harmful algal blooms. The beach area has a high Hydrological Response Velocity Index (VRH).
