Playa de Antilla is a 220-meter-long sandy beach located between the mouth of the Oria River and Punta Aranarri in the municipality of Orio, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The beach has a mean width of 90 meters and a surface area of approximately 20,000 square meters. It is an open beach with northwest orientation, situated in a semi-urban environment with good pedestrian and vehicular access, parking areas, and comprehensive recreational and support services. User attendance is low during weekdays but massive on weekends throughout summer.

Water

Transition water body (Oria estuary). The beach is situated at the external part of the estuary. Tidal range amplitude is 4.80 meters with a minimum tide of 1 meter. Water renewal is less than or equal to 7 days. Wave conditions are moderate due to local morphology and the maritime climate of the Basque coast. The Oria River has a mean discharge of 22.9 cubic meters per second.

Location

Orio municipality, Gipuzkoa province, Spain. The beach is confined longitudinally by a promenade and has good road and pedestrian access with a parking area. Domestic animals are prohibited during the bathing season.

Facilities

Lifeguards (socorristas), Hondartzainas (beach wardens), lookout towers, first aid kit, ambulance, medical equipment. Public services include toilets, washbasins, showers, drinking fountains, waste bins. Disabled access facilities include ramps, accessible toilets, showers, and rigid pathways on the sand. Information panels, public address system, information kiosks. Recreational facilities include children's play area, bicycle parking, picnic area, phone booth, bar, cafeteria, and restaurant.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2008 was GOOD, and for 2009 and 2010 was EXCELLENT according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring is conducted by the Public Health Directorate of the Basque Government at one sampling point located at the center of the bathing waters. The main pollution source is the Oria River, though urban wastewater from the adjacent area is treated at the Zarautz wastewater treatment plant before discharge via an outfall.
