Tabarca Beach is a closed cove located on the island of Tabarca in the municipality of Alicante, in the Valencian Community. The beach has a natural rocky and sandy composition with a shoreline of 444.2 metres and an average width of 34.4 metres. The island is notable for being Spain's first marine reserve. The beach is situated in a forested zone with no coastal defence structures.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored by the Conselleria de Agricultura, Medio Ambiente, Cambio Climático y Desarrollo Rural. Weekly visual inspection parameters are monitored and reported as excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient. Sampling point established in 1987. Potential short-term contamination factors are rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges, all rated as low frequency with slight impact. No direct discharges to the coastline affect water quality.

Risks

No direct coastal discharges identified. Urban sanitation system discharges via submarine outfall 480 metres away at 17.4 metres depth. Short-term contamination risk from rainfall is low with slight impact. Cyanobacteria are not typically produced in coastal waters and no proliferation episodes have been detected in the Valencian Community coastline. Jellyfish proliferations are possible as a natural phenomenon associated with coastal geomorphology and high water temperatures.
