Playa del Ahuir is a semi-urban beach located in the municipality of Gandía in Valencia province, Spain. It features a wooden promenade and a designated dog beach area. The beach has a longitudinal open configuration with no defensive structures and is bordered to the north by Xeraco beach and to the south by Gandía North beach. The beach is composed of sand with a semi-natural origin and measures 1,271.3 metres in length with an average width of 92.6 metres.

Water

Coastal marine bathing area in the Júcar River Basin District. The water body is classified as a coastal mass of water with low tidal range (microtidal). Current direction runs from south to north. The beach is situated on a low accumulation coast with an open longitudinal form.

Gandía, Valencia province, Valencian Community, Spain. Access available by road. Parking available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on monitoring results from 2020–2023 shows Excellent classification. Management of bathing water quality is regulated under Royal Decree 1341/2007 transposing Directive 2006/7/CE. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season evaluating water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. The coastal water mass status is classified as Moderate under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE.

Low-frequency potential contamination factors identified: rainfall impact (low frequency, mild effect), urban wastewater (low frequency, mild effect), coastal discharges (low frequency, mild effect), rivers/channels (low frequency, mild effect), industrial installations (low frequency, mild effect), port installations (low frequency, mild effect), and diffuse pollution (low frequency, mild effect). No direct coastal discharges affect water quality. Cyanobacteria proliferation is not typical in coastal waters and has not been detected in the Valencian Community coast. Phytoplankton blooms and jellyfish proliferation are natural phenomena associated with climate and water temperature.
