Mal Pas is a beach located in Benidorm, Alicante, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach has a closed cove configuration with perpendicular breakwaters and a small maritime promenade. It is bounded to the north by Llevant beach and to the south by Ponent beach. The beach has an artificial sandy composition and is situated on a low-lying accumulation coast.

Water

Marine bathing water. High-water line length 84.3 metres, average width 20.8 metres. Microtidal range. Current direction from south to north. The water mass belongs to the Júcar River Basin District and is classified as coastal water.

Location

Benidorm, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. Parking is available. Access is available, including for people with disabilities.

Facilities

Lifeguards (salvamento y socorrismo), free public toilets, foot-rinsing showers, waste bins including selective recycling, buoyed bathing area, beach umbrellas and lounger rental, bar/chiringuito, parking, disabled access.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The water mass status is very good. Weekly inspections during the bathing season assess visual parameters and water quality. No direct coastal discharges affecting water quality have been identified. The Benidorm wastewater treatment plant serves 178,452 inhabitants with a project discharge capacity of 62,320 m³/day and 2020 flow rate of 29,057 m³/day. Treatment includes tertiary treatment and chlorination. Factors of short-duration contamination (rainfall, urban sewerage, coastal discharges) are assessed as low frequency and mild impact.

Risks

Potential short-duration contamination factors identified as low frequency and mild impact: rainfall, urban sewerage, coastal discharges, rivers/canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected in the Valencian Community coastal waters.
