Coastal water body belonging to the Nalón Costa water mass. Length 2,800 meters, width 90 meters (highly variable). Macrotidal regime with tidal amplitude exceeding 4 meters. Golden sand composition. Water renewal time less than 7 days. Average wind speed 5.24 m/s. Current direction west-northwest. Strong wave conditions.

Location

Located in the municipalities of Soto del Barco and Castrillón in Asturias, Spain, near the locality of Navalón. The beach has good pedestrian access and road access with parking for more than 100 vehicles.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for bathing over the last 10 years. Microbiological monitoring shows very good sanitary quality. Risk of water contamination is very low. No relevant contamination sources identified in the vicinity.

Risks

Risk of jellyfish proliferation is low. One recorded incident in August 2010 with two Portuguese man o'war specimens in the Castrillón municipality. Summer 2012 was exceptional for jellyfish occurrences along the Asturian coast, resulting in red flag warnings. No recent records of jellyfish sightings in subsequent years. Macroalgae proliferation risk is low and typically associated with natural phenomena linked to storms. Risk of harmful microalgae and cyanobacteria proliferation is null due to short water renewal period and lack of estuary conditions.
