Platja dels Canyerets is a sheltered beach located in the residential Rosamar area of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the Baix Empordà region of Catalonia. The beach measures 181 meters long with an average width of 20 meters and covers an area of 4,097 square meters. It features coarse sand with a strong water entry slope and is bounded to the north by rocky cliffs and to the south by a rocky area connecting to Platja del Canyet. The beach has low occupancy during summer months.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. The beach is part of water body C14 (Begur-Blanes), classified as a deep rocky type with low continental influence. Average salinity ranges from 31.4–38.5 psu. Mean water temperatures are: June 20.3°C, July 22.9°C, August 24.1°C, September 22.9°C. Predominant sea state is rippled. Wave characteristics include significant wave height of 0.87 meters with a mean period of 5.55 seconds and most frequent direction NNE. Predominant winds are weak from the NW.

Location

Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona Province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is situated in the Rosamar residential urbanization, bordered to the north by the Esculls de sa Bardissa rocky formation and to the south by a rocky area adjacent to Platja del Canyet in Santa Cristina d'Aro municipality.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological monitoring occurs weekly. Environmental inspections occur a minimum of three times weekly during 17 consecutive weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored weekly during the bathing season according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE standards. Microbiological control tests Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci levels. Environmental inspections evaluate water transparency, coloration, floating debris, marine and terrestrial vegetation remains, foam, phytoplankton blooms, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The area has high hydrological response velocity during rainfall events. Torrent del Canyet is the only watercourse that periodically discharges freshwater to the bathing zone during rain.

Risks

Phytoplankton blooms are monitored as a natural phenomenon that may occur frequently during summer. The area has high hydrological response velocity index during rainfall episodes.
