El Portil is a 2,070-meter urban beach in Punta Umbría, Huelva, Andalucía, located on the Atlantic coast. The beach has an average width of 40 meters with golden sand and shallow waters in calm conditions. It is moderately exposed to waves with a dominant westerly swell pattern and is situated in a protected area.

Water

Atlantic coastal water body with shallow bathymetry and sandy substrate. Mesomareal tidal range of 2–4 meters. Currents predominantly flow south, south-southeast, and southeast. Moderately exposed to moderate wave exposure with dominant westerly waves.

Location

Located in Punta Umbría, Huelva province, Andalucía, in the Huelva coastal region. Easy pedestrian access to the beach.

Red Cross station, rescue equipment, vigilance equipment, signage, boardwalks, disabled access, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, water sports rental, and nautical club.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent in all monitored seasons (2013–2016). Microbiological pollution risk is low and short-duration (24 hours). Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influence zone with constructed, altered, forest, and natural surfaces. The Piedras River is the main watercourse in the area.

Risks

Medium risk of macroalgae proliferation. Low risk from jellyfish and phytoplankton.
