El Sable de Quejo is a bathing beach located in Arnuero, Cantabria, with a length of 50 metres and mean width of 20 metres. It is a sandy beach with calm waters and urban development. The beach has medium occupancy and is accessible by car via the CA-141 road.

Water

Coastal maritime water body in the Cantabrian Sea, located in the Cantabrian hydrographic demarcation. The beach has calm waters with sandy composition.

Location

Arnuero, Cantabria, Spain. Access by car via CA-141 road. Interurban bus transport available. No parking facilities on-site.

Facilities

Lifeguards, showers, telephone, waste bins, lifesaving equipment, first aid post (Cruz Roja), police presence. No disabled access, no toilets, no parking, no beach umbrella or hammock rental, no kiosks, no nautical sports facilities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) and Good (2015). Chlorophyll 'a' concentration at the coastal water station in the Bay of Santander area is approximately 2.7 µg/l. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is very low, below 5,000,000 cells/l. One urban wastewater discharge point (Emisario EDAR San Pantaleón, continuous discharge) is documented.

Risks

Medium risk of non-compliance with Directive 2006/7/CEE. Future modifications to beach quality conditions may occur with full implementation of the General Sanitation Plan for the Santoña Marshes.
