Playa Levante Cabo de Palos is a 1000 m long natural sandy beach in the Mediterranean Sea near Cartagena, Spain. The beach has dark sand and experiences high occupancy with approximately 10,833 maximum daily swimmers. Water renewal occurs within 7 days. The beach was awarded the Blue Flag designation.

Mediterranean Sea coastal maritime zone in the Segura River Basin hydrographic demarcation. Beach length 1000 m, average width 25 m. Sandy composition with dark sand bottom. Water renewal time less than 7 days. Micromareal tidal range (less than 2 m).

Facilities

Foot washing stations (3 units, discharge directly to sand). No showers, toilets, or changing rooms.

Water Quality

Water quality rated as excellent from 2000–2009 and in 2010–2011. No significant pressure sources. No authorized discharges in the nearby area. Toxic phytoplankton monitoring conducted in 2008 and 2009 showed negligible presence of potentially toxic cells. The water body is classified as being in good ecological status.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon rarely affecting public health; risk is null or very low. Jellyfish appear seasonally with maximum abundance from early spring to late summer; short-duration episodes are unlikely.
