Playa Las Meloneras is a coastal bathing beach located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana municipality on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. The beach measures 283 meters long and 68 meters wide, with fine golden sand substrate and shallow waters ranging from 0 to 5 meters depth. The bathing area is protected from wave exposure and features calm waters with tidal range of 1–3 meters. The beach is situated near the localities of Meloneras and Maspalomas.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on evaluation of analytical results for faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) collected over four years according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70GCTII is in good ecological status (biological and physicochemical), with overall state of good or better according to the Hydrological Plan of Gran Canaria.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Pasito Blanco sports marina. Point sources: Las Mujeres II submarine outfall (El Tablero treatment plant); Las Mujeres I submarine outfall (El Oasis treatment plant); sewage network relief valve at Las Mujeres beach. Watercourse: Maspalomas ravine. Cyanobacteria proliferation episodes (Trichodesmium) recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No previous contamination episodes recorded in Náyade. Potential short-duration contamination risks include stormwater discharge from heavy rainfall, raw or treated urban wastewater (from outfall breaks, sewage network failures, emergency discharges, unauthorized dumping), and accidental hydrocarbon or organic waste discharge.
