Monsul is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing water located in Níjar, Almería, Spain. The beach stretches 430 metres in length with an average width of 45 metres and features golden sand composition. Swimming conditions are generally calm, though the water is exposed to wave action dominated by easterly and northeast winds. The beach is situated in an isolated, undeveloped area within a protected zone.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, deep rocky substrate with gravel. Bathymetry shows deep waters. Microtidal range of 0–2 metres. Currents are dominant towards east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Annual precipitation is less than 200 millimetres with a torrentiality index of 75–100 per cent.

Location

Níjar municipality, Almería province, Andalusia. The beach is accessed on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is San José, 6 kilometres away.

Facilities

Surveillance equipment present. Waste bins provided. Cleaning service available. Beach signage is present. No lifeguard post, no rescue equipment, no disabled access, no toilets, no showers, no beach promenade, and no water sports rentals.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: 2013 (Very Good), 2014 (Excellent), 2015 (Excellent), 2016 (Excellent). Short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature. Medusae, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation risks are all low.

Risks

Wave exposure is moderate, with dominant easterly and northeast winds. No short-duration point pollution sources are recorded.
