Playa Romana is an artificial bathing beach located on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, featuring fine sand with a gentle slope. The beach measures 110 metres in length and 64 metres in width, and experiences currents and undertow. It is a free-access recreational bathing area with high daily visitor numbers, primarily used by non-resident tourists.

Free-access bathing water in Badia de Santa Ponça (water body code MAMC02M3). The beach has a gentle slope with fine sand substrate. Currents and undertow are present.

Location

Mallorca, Balearic Islands, in the municipality of Calviá. Pedestrian access is good. Vehicle access and parking are both good. Disabled access is available.

Water Quality

Annual water quality classification: Excellent (2020, 2021, 2022) and Good (2019). Short-duration pollution episodes (<72 hours) occurred in 2021 (1 episode). Exceptional pollution episodes (>72 hours) occurred in 2019 (2 episodes). Very low to low floating waste accumulation. Sources of contamination include a sewage outfall (EDAR Paguera) approximately 1 km away, accidental sewage blockages, boat discharges, and surface runoff.

Risks

Phytoplankton proliferation is frequent. Jellyfish are occasional. Currents and undertow are present.
