Playa San Juan is a 310-meter-long, 37-meter-wide coastal bathing beach located in Guía de Isora, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach features dark sand substrate and is exposed to moderate wave action with calm water conditions. The official bathing season runs from 1 February to 30 November.

Water

Coastal marine water body. Bathymetry ranges from 0 to -4 meters. Water regime features calm seas with tidal range of 1-3 meters and wave exposure classified as exposed-protected. Substrate is dark sand.

Location

Guía de Isora municipality, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is accessible by foot and vehicle, with good pedestrian and vehicular access. Parking is available and in good condition.

Lifeguards, public water fountain with drinking water, showers, foot wash stations, services, changing rooms, bars, waste bins, public telephone, umbrella rental, canopy rental, deckchair rental, disabled access, public promenade.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on evaluation of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci levels over four years according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70TFTV_1 (Montaña Pelada – Barranco Seco) is in good ecological status with good or better total status.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Puerto de Fonsalía. Point pollution sources include wastewater treatment plants, storm overflow systems, submarine outfalls, brine discharge from desalination plants, and drainage from two ravines (Barranco San Juan and Barranco del Roque). Potential sporadic contamination from heavy rainfall runoff and urban wastewater. Cyanobacteria (Trichodesmium) proliferation episodes occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. Jellyfish and sea urchins pose no risk. Macroalgae present no risk.
