Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for bathing. Microbiological monitoring results show good and excellent sanitary quality. The influence of the Esqueiro River estuary is present but does not present significant contamination pressure. Overall risk of insufficient water quality is very low.

Risks

The Esqueiro River discharges at the beach and can cause short-duration contamination episodes during storms, with associated increases in enteric bacteria, turbidity, and odours. Risk classified as low. An EDAR (wastewater treatment plant) discharge point located 1.27 km from the sampling point presents low risk of contamination from treatment failures. Microalgae, cyanobacteria, and macroalgae proliferation risk is null. Jellyfish proliferation risk is null, though occasional sightings occur naturally during spring-summer months.
