Torrenueva is a natural coastal bathing water located in the Mediterranean Sea near Motril, Granada, Spain. The beach extends 2,080 meters in length with an average width of 30 meters and features dark sand composition. Swimming conditions are characterized by moderate wave action and exposure to easterly and east-southeasterly winds. The beach is highly urbanized with a promenade and walkways, and experiences high occupancy.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water. The water body is classified as Mediterranean waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Batimetry indicates deep waters with mud and sand substrate. Tidal range is micromareal (0–2 m). Current regime is dominant toward the northeast. Wave exposure is moderate, with dominant waves from the east and east-southeast.

Location

Motril, Granada, Andalucía, Spain. The beach is easily accessible on foot and by car. Disabled access is available.

Facilities

Red Cross post, lifeguards, rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, disabled access, signage, and hazard warnings. No nautical rental, diving zone, or sports club facilities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Monitoring methodology follows the deterministic approach under UNE 150008 standard. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk is low.

Risks

Low risk from short-duration microbiological contamination. Low risk of proliferation from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae. Diffuse pollution source identified from land use, built surfaces, and altered terrain in the influence zone. Villanueva Ravine is the associated watercourse.
