Verdicio Beach is a natural sandy beach located near the urban centre of Verdicio in Gozón, Asturias. The beach measures 330 metres in length with a variable width of 80 metres and features golden sand composition. It experiences strong waves and macro-tidal conditions with water renewal in less than seven days. The beach has a high occupancy rate and urban development characteristics.

Water

Coastal water body on the western coast of the Cantabrian Sea. Length 330 metres, width 80 metres (variable). Macro-tidal range exceeding 4 metres. Average wind speed 5.24 metres per second. Current direction west-northwest. Water renewal time less than 7 days. Strong wave conditions.

Location

Verdicio, municipality of Gozón, Asturias, Spain. The beach is situated near the urban nucleus of Verdicio. Pedestrian access is good and road access is available with parking for more than 100 vehicles.

Facilities

Lifeguards, showers, good pedestrian access, parking with more than 100 spaces.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for bathing. Sanitary microbiological parameters show excellent results. Risk of contamination is very low. No pollution sources identified that significantly influence the bathing water. Historical records show no contamination episodes.

Risks

Jellyfish occurrences recorded during spring-summer months including Portuguese Man o' War (Physalia physalis), Velella velella, Pelagia noctiluca, and Aurelia aurita. Only three documented incidents for this beach: five Portuguese Man o' War sightings in August 2008 and 2010. Summer 2012 was exceptional with increased jellyfish incidents. One Aequorea forskalea specimen recorded in August 2016. Overall risk of jellyfish proliferation is considered low. No risk from microalgae, cyanobacteria, or macroalgae proliferation.
