Playa Viejo Rey is a coastal bathing area located in Jandía, Fuerteventura, spanning 907 metres in length with a 20-metre width. The beach features fine golden sand and is exposed to strong wave conditions. The water body is a natural surface coastal water mass with depths ranging from 0 to 7 metres. The beach is suitable for surfing activities.

Water

Natural surface coastal water mass (ES70FVTI2 - Punta Jandía – Punta del Lago). Depth: 0 to 7 metres. Substrate: fine golden sand. Wave regime: strong. Tidal range: 1–3 metres. The water mass is in good ecological status according to the Fuerteventura Hydrological Plan.

Location

Jandía, Pájara municipality, Fuerteventura, Las Palmas province, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is available but in poor condition. Vehicle access and parking are not available.

Facilities

No public water supply, showers, footbaths, services, changing rooms, bars, waste bins, telephone, public address system, umbrella rental, canopy rental, deckchair rental, sanitary attention, doctor, or lifeguards.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on microbiological indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci) evaluated over four years according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass is in good or better overall state with good biological and physical-chemical status.

Risks

Two point sources of pollution: EDAR Costa Real and EDAR Urbanización La Pared. Valley Stream (Barranco del Valle de La Pared) is a watercourse. Occasional short-duration contamination events are expected: storm water discharge from heavy rainfall (sporadic, under 72 hours) and raw or treated urban wastewater (unforeseen, under 72 hours). Episodes of cyanobacterial proliferation (Trichodesmium) occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
