Porsman beach is a newly established bathing area located in the municipality of Plouarzel on the Brittany coast of France. The beach received its first water quality sampling in June 2016 and achieved the minimum of 16 samples required for classification under the 2006 EU directive after the 2017 season. The beach has been classified as 'GOOD' quality. The bathing zone encompasses a watershed of approximately 5 square kilometers that drains via the Porspaul stream.

Water

Coastal marine water receiving freshwater input from the Porspaul stream, which flows for approximately 4 kilometres before discharging into the sea at the south of Porspaul beach. The watershed covers an area of approximately 5 square kilometres.

Location

Porsman beach is located in the municipality of Plouarzel, near the boundary with the municipality of Lampaul-Plouarzel, in Brittany, France.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season, with sampling beginning in June.

Water Quality

The beach is classified as 'GOOD' according to the 2006 EU directive on bathing water quality. Water quality monitoring began in June 2016. Classification is based on analysis of microbiological indicators including Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.

Risks

The bathing profile identifies potential microbiological contamination sources from sanitation systems, stormwater networks, agricultural activities, and camping facilities within the watershed.
