Port Moguériec is a sandy beach located in the commune of Sibiril. The beach is enclosed, causing pollutants to persist longer in the bathing zone. The area has a rocky and accidental relief with alternating rocky promontories and sandy coves. Urbanised surfaces predominate in the immediate perimeter, creating high soil impermeability and accelerated runoff towards the bathing zone.

Sandy beach in an enclosed coastal location. The beach is subject to tidal influences and hydrodynamic transport of water masses.

Location

Port Moguériec, commune of Sibiril. The immediate perimeter is defined within a 500-meter radius based on topography and the presence of water outlets.

Water Quality

According to the 2006/7/CE Directive classification system, the bathing water at Port Moguériec was classified as "sufficient quality" in 2010. From 2005 to 2010, microbiological data showed 2 exceedances of thresholds for E. coli and enterococci parameters as defined by AFSSET. Prior to 2010, under the 76/160/CEE Directive, water quality ranged from good to average.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include bacterial contamination from the sewage network with risk of raw effluent discharge via Port Moguériec outlet, the Moguériec stream discharging near the bathing zone, individual treatment systems in the distant perimeter, birds, and mooring activities. Non-bacterial pollution from hydrocarbons and nutrients is also present. During summer, heavy rainfall events are rare, resulting in low flood risk during the bathing season.
