Porto Garibaldi 50 mt nord Portocanale - punto B is a sandy beach of particular tourist interest located on the Emilia-Romagna coast in the municipality of Comacchio, Ferrara province. The beach is 120–140 metres wide and is protected by nine breakwaters spaced 20 metres apart. The area has high tourist use with numerous hotels and bathing facilities. The beach is part of approximately 15 kilometres of coastline bordered to the north by the Sacca di Goro and to the south by the Porto Canale di Porto Garibaldi.

Water

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. No rivers discharge into this bathing water area, nor are there direct sea discharges at the profiling location.

Location

Comacchio, Ferrara province, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. Located 50 metres north of the Porto Canale. Coordinates: centre X=12.2458° Y=44.6799°. The area extends 0.863 square kilometres.

17 bathing establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to people with disabilities, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia Coli 90th percentile: 18 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 21 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 90th percentile: 31 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 41 CFU/100 ml. No direct pollution sources are present within the bathing water area.

Risks

A pressure factor to the south is the mouth of the Porto Garibaldi Navigation Canal, which collects pretreated water from sewage system overflow tanks (during the bathing season, in case of rain, overflow from sewage pumping stations occurs via submersible pumps; each pumping station has a peracetic acid dosing station to reduce bacterial load) and agricultural runoff water from land reclamation channels. This source may give rise to eutrophication phenomena. No sustained cyanobacterial eutrophic phenomena have ever been reported. Phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) were not reported during 2015–2018. Macroalgae blooms (genus Ulva) were recorded during July–August 2018 in the central-northern section of the coast, causing modifications to the use of the bathing zone during biomass accumulation.
