Portonovo is a pebble beach in Ancona, Marche region, protected by natural submerged limestone reefs. The beach extends 1600 metres in length and 35 metres in width, with an average slope of 5% on the emerged beach and 8% on the submerged beach. The distance between mean low and high water is 5 metres, with astronomical tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area consists of urban and tourist settlements mixed with Mediterranean scrubland.
