The main potential pollution source is the Polignano a Mare wastewater treatment plant with underwater discharge pipes carrying treated wastewater from residential and industrial settlements. No cyanobacterial blooms or toxic algal species proliferation have been detected. No short-term pollution events recorded in the past four years.
