Praicciola is a bathing water area located in Nicotera, Calabria, featuring a pebble beach with an articulated coastal geomorphology. Coastal water body. Designated area covers 1,864 hectares. Part of the Joppolo–Nicotera water body.

Location

Nicotera, Calabria, Italy. The area is located between the inhabited centers of Santa Maria di Ricadi and Nicotera.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is monitored by Calabria Region, the municipality, ASP (Health Authority), emergency services (118), and Arpacal (regional environmental agency). Wastewater treatment is provided by the Nicotera treatment plant.

Risks

The Fosso Britto stream mouth is identified as a pollution source. Short-term pollution events have been recorded, including accidental failures at the depuratore (treatment plant) and overflow incidents. However, cyanobacterial proliferation and macroalgae proliferation have not been documented in the last four years.
