Water

Pärnu Bay (eastern section), a coastal marine water body. Maximum depth: 1.7 metres. Average depth: 1.5 metres at 200 metres from the shoreline. Shoreline length: 2200 metres. The beach has a sandy bottom.

Location

Pärnu city, Estonia. One beach is located along the extension of Harju Street and the other along the extension of Hirve Street. The nearest parking is approximately 167 metres from the water's edge. The area is regularly maintained between 15 May and 31 October.

Facilities

Changing cabins, dry toilets (located approximately 190 metres from the water's edge, emptied as needed), waste bins (emptied regularly to prevent overflow and odour). Dogs are permitted only at Harju Street beach, not at Hirve Street beach. Motor vehicles are prohibited except for emergency and maintenance purposes.

Season

Official bathing season: 1 June to 31 August. Annual maintenance and facility setup: 1 April to 14 May. Regular cleaning and maintenance: 15 May to 31 October.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EC. Monitoring focuses on enterococcal bacteria and Escherichia coli levels. Assessment period covers 2011-2019 data. The bathing area is part of Pärnu sub-basin (EE1SU3) in the Western Estonia water region.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include Pärnu wastewater treatment plant, ports, storm water and sewage systems, settlements, and livestock. The document notes the possible occurrence of potentially toxic cyanobacterial blooms and macroalgae or phytoplankton growth.
