Ranziger See is a natural lake located approximately 7 km southwest of Beeskow, formed by glacial activity during the last ice age. The lake has a surface area of 13 hectares and a maximum depth of 12 meters, with an oval basin that lacks inflow or outflow and is fed solely by groundwater. The water is among the clearest in the region with average transparency of 2 meters during the bathing season. Extensive reed beds grow along the eastern shore, while the western shore is largely occupied by the village of Ranzig and a camping site, surrounded by pine forest elsewhere.

Water

Natural lake with a surface area of 13 hectares and maximum depth of 12 meters. The lake has no inflow or outflow and is fed solely by groundwater. Water temperature ranges from 11.3 to 26.9 degrees Celsius, with an average of 21 degrees Celsius. The lake exhibits stable temperature stratification in summer. Water transparency at the bathing area averages 2 meters, ranging from 1 to 2.5 meters. Salinity is less than 0.5 parts per thousand. pH values range from 8.0 to 8.9 with an average of 8.5.

Location

Located approximately 7 km southwest of Beeskow in the municipality of Tauche, Oder-Spree district. The bathing area is designated as Ranzig at the western shore of the lake.

Season

Monitoring conducted year-round with four-week sampling intervals.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring periods from 2016-2019 through 2021-2024. Microbiological monitoring results show E. coli 95-percentile values ranging from 41 to 58 per 100 ml and intestinal enterococci 95-percentile values ranging from 63 to 72 per 100 ml across different periods. In 2016, a single exceedance of intestinal enterococci was recorded, with no further exceedances detected. The bathing area is monitored every four weeks by the health authority.

Risks

No cyanobacterial blooms observed during bathing season. No danger of future mass development of cyanobacteria. Macroalgae and aquatic plants are present. No phytoplankton risk identified. No danger of bathing dermatitis from cercariae.
