Portugal Lake 1 - Excellent

Ribeira is a rural beach located in the Douro River basin with intervals of sand strips alternating with lawn areas. Pebbles are present on the banks and there are shaded areas available. The beach is situated in Macedo de Cavaleiros municipality in northern Portugal.

June 14 to September 14, 2025. Sampling frequency: every 2 weeks.

Water Quality

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive surface flow from tributaries during rainfall, contamination of rainwater drainage networks, or malfunction of the Combinhas waste water treatment plant. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions occurred in the 2024 bathing season. Faecal contamination is the primary identified microbiological pollution source.

Risks

Potential faecal contamination from tributaries Azibeiro and Reguendos, rainwater drainage systems, and sewerage networks. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely.
