Los Ángeles is a natural river bathing area located on the Río Los Ángeles in Pinofranqueado, Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. The bathing zone is situated in a narrow fluvial valley with steep surrounding terrain. A dam structure with concrete base and iron boards creates the bathing pool, accompanied by a stone bridge and parallel riverside path. The area is integrated within the urban nucleus of Pinofranqueado and is designated as part of the Natura 2000 site 'Río Esperabán'.

Water

Mountain Mediterranean siliceous river. The river has a single channel with low sinuosity. The riverbed is composed of pebbles, gravel not fixed by sediments, and fine materials. Mean caudal during bathing season: 0.45 m³/s. Extreme caudals recorded between 2003–2014: maximum 6.94 m³/s (September 2014), minimum 0.03 m³/s (September 2013). The river is unregulated with no upstream dam infrastructure.

Location

Pinofranqueado, Cáceres province, Extremadura. Access from Cáceres via the EX-204 regional road, or via CC-110 from Pedro Muñoz. The bathing zone is visible from the river bridge. Parking is available as the beach is adjacent to the urban core.

Facilities

Informational signs present. No lifeguard posts, toilets, showers, boat landing, recreational zone, or swimming pools. No domestic animal access permitted. Garbage collection provided. Parking and bar/chiringuito services are available as the beach is adjacent to the urban nucleus. Walking path runs parallel to the river along the left margin.

Season

16 June to 24 September. Annual bathing season published by health authorities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification and monitoring results are not specified. Identified pollution sources include autocontamination by bathers, the Aula de Naturaleza facility (100 m away, significant contamination risk), and the EDAR Pedro Muñoz wastewater treatment plant (1,300 m away, significant contamination risk). Non-significant sources include additional treatment plants and septic systems at greater distances.

Autocontamination by bathers. Livestock operations in the municipality: 60 sheep, 213 goats, 15 pigs, 6 equines, 22 poultry. Agricultural activities covering 794 hectares with potential infiltration of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilisers. Risk factors of short duration include accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, sediment and sludge remobilisation, and abnormally reduced river flow.
