Water

River (Río Tioira/Doade), a Cantabro-Atlantic siliceous water body with a single, sinuous channel. Environmental flow rate of 0.17 m³/s. Four-year return period flow of 29 m³/s. Catchment area of 19 km². Bed substrate of rounded stones (6–25 cm) and boulders (>25 cm) with algae and moss coverage on rocks.

Location

Located in Doade, Beariz municipality, Ourense province, Galicia. Access via the old OU-235 (OU-415) road from Doade towards Acebedo, then follow local roads to reach the bathing area on the left side of the road. Parking is available.

Facilities

Parking available. Picnic areas present. Waste bins and containers available. Trash collection daily. Concrete swimming pools with continuous water renewal. No lifeguards, no toilets, no showers, no information signs, no bar/refreshment stand, no boat landing, no recreational zone, no water fountains. Domestic animal access not specified.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to Royal Decree 1341/2007 for bathing water management. Monitoring conducted 2011–2015 for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci (CFU/100 ml). Short-duration contamination risks identified from livestock farming runoff, agricultural runoff, user self-contamination, accidental/illegal discharges, dead animals, sediment remobilization, and organic debris.

Risks

Short-duration contamination episodes possible when river flow is abnormally reduced (below 0.0004 m³/s). Risks from livestock runoff due to manure storage system rupture or overflow, agricultural runoff from heavy rains, high bather numbers causing self-contamination, accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, sediment remobilization, and organic debris. Contamination risk primarily on weekends and from unpredictable events.
