Location

Ribadumia, Pontevedra province, Galicia, Spain. Access via the PO300 road heading toward the wine route, crossing the river by bridge, then following signs toward the municipal swimming pool and nautical club. A roundabout marks the entrance. Parking is available.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to Real Decreto 1341/2007. Historical data (2001–2007) shows fecal coliform levels exceeded the imperative limit of 2000 CFU/100ml on several occasions, with a declining trend observed. Monitoring in 2008–2009 measured Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations. Risk assessment indicates potential health concerns for swimmers when flow rates fall below 0.01 m³/s and intestinal enterococci concentrations exceed 1000 CFU/100ml.

Risks

Fecal contamination from livestock (412 cattle, 694 pigs, 38 sheep, 41 horses, 2 goats in the municipality) and manure runoff from crops and pastures. Users of the bathing zone present autocontamination risk. Accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, and sediment remobilization constitute potential short-duration pollution risks. Health risk for swimmers exists during low-flow periods (below 0.01 m³/s) combined with elevated enterococcal concentrations.
