Acicastello, province of Catania, Sicily. The bathing area is located near the port of the Acitrezza fraction of Acicastello. Coordinates: 15.16619°E 37.56226°N to 15.16659°E 37.56077°N. Area extends approximately 0.171 to 1.38 km.

Classified as Excellent quality. Monitoring conducted at coordinates 15.16745°E 37.56141°N. Water quality assessment based on bacterial parameters at 95th and 90th percentile values.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events can occur due to transport of sewage from ocean currents. An old discharge point exists at the Acitrezza old port. Previous pollution events recorded on 11 August 2016 and 12 October 2016. Wastewater treatment infrastructure present but subject to monitoring for efficiency and compliance with EU Directive 91/271/CE standards.
