Water
Multiple water bodies including lakes (Jyväsjärvi, Päijänne, Tuomiojärvi, Myllyjärvi, Palokkajärvi, Kaakkojärvi, Kivijärvi, Korttajärvi, Neulajärvi, Leppävesi, Luonetjärvi, Sääksjärvi) and rivers. Beach areas range from approximately 300 to 4,000 square metres of sand. Water depths and bottom types vary by location, with sandy and muddy bottoms reported.
Location
Jyväskylä and surrounding municipalities in Finland. Individual beaches are located throughout the region with addresses ranging from central Jyväskylä to outlying areas such as Säynätsalo, Vaajakoski, Tikkakoski, Leppälahti, and Korpilahti. Parking is available at most EU-standard beaches; smaller beaches may lack dedicated parking areas.
Facilities
Minimum facilities at all beaches include life rings, waste bins, dog prohibition signs, toilets, changing cabins, and information boards. EU-standard beaches additionally feature lifeguard services (seasonal), mooring posts, diving platforms at selected locations, kiosks, parking areas, and beach volleyball courts. Some beaches have outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds, and canoe piers.
Season
Lifeguard supervision operates from June to August 2025. At Tuomiojärvi and Köhniö beaches, lifeguards are present daily from 12:00 to 20:00 (reduced hours during Midsummer week). Smoking restrictions at EU beaches apply from 1 May to 30 September.
Water Quality
Water quality monitoring is conducted by Environmental Health authorities. All beaches undergo regular inspection with water samples taken and attention given to beach cleanliness and waste management. Smoking is prohibited at EU-standard beaches from 1 May to 30 September.
Risks
Diving is prohibited from all piers and mooring posts due to insufficient water depth. Jumping diving platforms must be used only with swimming ability. Algae presence is not mentioned. Currents and other hazards are managed through posted safety rules and lifeguard supervision.
