Shoeburyness is a shingle beach at the easternmost tip of Southend's shoreline. The beach is backed by a promenade lined with beach huts. At the eastern end of the beach lies a slipway regularly used for launching boats and other water sport activities.

Risks

This bathing water may be affected by discharges which can occur when heavy rainfall overwhelms the sewerage system and causes diluted sewage to overflow. Within the wider catchment of the bathing water there are several storm and emergency overflows, including a storm discharge directly onto the bathing water beach. Improvements by Anglian Water to the local sewerage network have reduced the likelihood of a storm discharge, however during and after periods of rainfall these discharges may have an adverse effect on bathing water quality.
